Restorative Yoga

How can restorative yoga help you?  Isn’t it just lying on the floor doing nothing and being lazy?  Actually no, restorative yoga brings your body and mind into a state of relaxation, restoration leaving you feeling peaceful, calm and re-energised.  It’s a lot more than that though, restorative yoga offers a very gentle way to allow the body and the mind to relax and heal at its own pace without causing any additional exertion or overwhelm and is an essential additional to life’s tool kit to help through times of stress and trauma.

There are so many other benefits to practising restorative yoga because when we make the physical body feel comfortable, and the energetic body feel safe, we are actually:

  • Building resiliency to stress
  • Attuning to our inner states
  • Self-soothing
  • Re-connecting to self
  • Transforming how we experience the body
  • Relaxing into abundant inner energy
  • And unlocking creativity

This is in addition to the proven benefits to sleep, immunity, circulation, digestion, fertility, mental health.

In the busy-ness of life, learning to relax is a skill we often forget and yet it is fundamental to our wellbeing.  The Coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the urgent and imperative need to re-learn these skills to not only improve our physical health but also our mental and emotional health too.  As Judith Hanson Lasater says “Resting is not a waste of time.  It is an investment in our wellbeing”.  Restorative yoga enables us to not only improve our sleep but also our resilience to stress and reduce our anxiety levels.
